The TDC locating pin is used to confirm that the crankshaft is in the top dead center (TDC) position. The installation steps are as follows:

  1. 1. Place the engine at the top dead center position of the first cylinder.
  2. 2. Insert the TDC locating pin into the TDC mark hole on the flywheel.
  3. 3. Make sure the locating pin is aligned with the mark to confirm that the crankshaft is in the correct position.

NOTE: Do not use the TDC dowel pin as a support when tightening or loosening the resonator bolts to avoid bending.

To replace the timing chain using the FUERD BMW N20/N26 Timing Tool Kit:

  1. 1. Disconnect the negative terminal of the battery to ensure safe operation.
  2. 2. Secure the camshaft using the camshaft locking pin.
  3. 3. Secure the flywheel in the TDC position using the crankshaft locking tool.
  4. 4. Release the timing chain tensioner and remove the old timing chain.
  5. 5. Install the new timing chain and use the alignment gauge to ensure that the chain is correctly aligned with the camshaft and crankshaft synchronizer.
  6. 6. Re-tension the chain and make sure that all tools are correctly positioned.
  7. 7. Remove the tools in reverse order and connect the negative terminal of the battery.
  8. 8. Start the engine and check whether the timing is correct.

Using the alignment gauge from the tool kit, check that the alignment marks on the camshaft and crankshaft synchronizer are aligned correctly. Here are the specific steps:

  1. 1. Make sure the crankshaft is locked in the TDC position.
  2. 2. Use the camshaft locking tool to secure the camshaft.
  3. 3. Check that the marks on the timing chain are aligned with the marks on the camshaft and crankshaft sprockets.
  4. 4. If the alignment is not accurate, readjust the timing chain position.
  5. 5. After confirming that all alignment marks are correct, install the tensioner and tighten the chain.

To extend the life of your tools, please note the following:

  1. 1. Clean tools after use to remove oil and impurities.
